A 3-meter statue of Queen Queen leader Freddie Mercury stands on the shores of Lake Geneva in the Swiss city of Montreux. It was designed by the Czech artist Irena Sedlecká, it was unveiled on the 5th anniversary of the musician's death - November 25, 1996. The monument is decorated by fans with fresh flowers.
Freddie Mercury came to Switzerland in 1978 at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The band decided to record here their album "Jazz". The artist was enchanted by the area, he rented an apartment here with a view of Lake Geneva and bought the recording studio "Mountain Studio". It was in Switzerland that he recorded his last album with the band, Fri. "Made in Heaven" - its cover is decorated with graphics depicting Lake Geneva.
The monument is today a showcase of the city and one of the most characteristic points of the waterfront. It is located near the covered city market.
