Växjö is often called Sweden's greenest city. This is related both to the local green areas and the pro-ecological solutions introduced since the 1980s. It is also an important cultural center with numerous museums and a great base for discovering the Småland region.

The city is surrounded by forests and lakes, which are a great place for active recreation. On one of them, Lake Helgasjön, there are the ruins of the Krnobergs Castle.
