The Värmland Museum shows the history and culture of the Swedish province of Värmland. You can see two permanent exhibitions here: about the history of Värmland and the art of the region (mainly in the 20th century), as well as a visit to the science center with a modern workshop used for experiments.
The museum's collection includes around 40,000 items, as well as around 9,000 works of art and over a million archival photos. Temporary exhibitions are often organized here, the museum also conducts archaeological research and deals with the conservation of works of art.
The Värmland Museum has four departments: in Forshaga (Flottningsmuseum) with an exhibition presenting the history of rafting, in Torsby (Finnkulturcentrum) with an exhibition about Finnish settlers from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, in Långban - where you can visit a closed mine and ironworks (monuments of industrial architecture) and the Rococo mansion in Västra Smedsbyn.
