The Gothenburg Opera House is relatively new. Its construction began in 1989, and five years later there was a ceremonial inauguration in the presence of the Swedish royal family. The repertoire includes opera concerts, ballet performances and operettas, as well as musicals.
The opera house is 160 m long, 85 m wide and 32 m high. There is a main stage, two side scenes and one back stage. The main stage, 20 m long and 25 m wide, is illuminated by a thousand floodlights, and the audience and balconies can seat 1,301 spectators in total.
The opera house houses a Scandinavian restaurant with a capacity of 150 guests. While sitting at a table, you can enjoy the picturesque view of the Göta River. There is also a bar and several cafes.
