Fårö Lighthouse

Local name: Fårö fyr

The Fårö lighthouse was built between 1846 and 1847. It has the form of a white cylindrical tower, 30 meters high and topped with a gallery. Next to it there is a lighthouse keeper's house. The light of the lighthouse reaches 28 km into the sea.

The first lantern lamp was powered by rapeseed oil, in the 1880s it was replaced with a kerosene lamp. In 1953, the lighthouse was electrified, and at the end of the 20th century, a radiotelephone was also installed in it.
