The art museum was opened in the second half. XIX century. The core of the exhibition is the collection of the Catalan politician Victor Balaguer, given to the city in gratitude for supporting his political career. The collection includes nearly 7,000 works of art, mainly nineteenth-century paintings and sculptures.
