Puente de Alcántara in Toledo is a bridge dating from the Roman Empire, has been entered in the register of Spanish monuments. Initially, high towers stood at both its ends, in the 18th century the eastern one was replaced by a baroque arch. The name is derived from the Arabic language, in which the word al-Qantara means "bridge".
