The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Pillar is considered the first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Europe. The patron of the temple is also often called the Mother of God of the Spanish People. Inside the church you can see the wonderful image of the Mother of God located in the main altar, a wooden statue of the Mother of God from Pillar, decorative jasper columns, paintings and sculptures. Worth seeing is the Chapel of the Rosary, St. Lawrence, Antoni, Joachim, Anna and Jan.
The first temple in this place was established right after the adoption of the Christian teaching preached by Saint James the Apostle. According to the accounts, the first Marian apparition took place there before the Assumption. The current building made in the Baroque style was built in the 17th century and underwent reconstruction in the 18th century.
