Black Madona of Montserrat

The wooden statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child was probably made in the 12th century, although it was previously suggested that it was even built in the 6th century. It is the most valuable sculpture kept in the Benedictine monastery of Montserrat. The statue is the object of numerous pilgrimages.
