Las Palmas is the capital of the island of Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands (together with Santa Cruz). The city founded in the 15th century today connects the historic center with dynamic holiday districts and beautiful beaches.
Las Palmas as one of the few cities in Spain boasts its own sandy and clean beaches. They stretch for many kilometers. Thanks to the mild climate, you can relax here from spring to late autumn. The beaches are developed and equipped with all amenities, as well as water sports centers. Near the sea there are many hotels and holiday resorts.
The most important monuments of Las Palamas are concentrated in the Vegueta district. Its buildings were built mainly in the 16th and 17th centuries. There is, among others, St. Anne's Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace with a beautifully decorated facade. In the Old Town you can also see the House of Columbus, where according to reports the sailor was to stop during a trip to America. Today a museum operates here. Vegueta has cobbled streets, picturesque tenements, palaces and squares hidden between them. It is also a lot of cafes, restaurants and bars that invite you at any time of the day until late at night.
Outside the historic center there are parks, including Doramas Park, where you can see plants characteristic of the Canary Islands, and Santa Catalina Park, where the annual Carnival takes place. During your stay in Las Palmas, it's worth visiting the museums here, including the Canary Museum showing the history and culture of the region.
