Montjuïc Communications Tower

The Telecommunications Tower on Montjuic is located at Plac Europa, in the heart of the areas occupied by Olympic facilities. It is a steel structure with a futuristic shape that can also serve as a gnomon.

The tower was built in 1989–1992 in preparation for the Olympic Games. It was designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava. It is to symbolize an athlete holding an Olympic torch. Its base was lined with trencadis mosaic, which is characteristic of the Art Nouveau decorations in Barcelona. Gaudi is considered the creator of this type of decorations.
