Puerta de Palmas

This monumental gate is the remains of the city wall surrounding Badajoz in the 16th century. Two cylindrical towers served as a prison until the end of the 19th century. The arch connecting them was decorated with the shield of Charles Bourbon. On the facade there is a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Angels.
