The cathedral was built in the 13th century, after the Christian conquest of the city by King Alfonso IX. The building has been on the list of historic buildings since 1931. From the outside, the cathedral resembles a fortress - with huge walls and towers. The interior is decorated in the Gothic-Baroque style. The Cathedral Museum operates at the cathedral.
