National Park of Pieniny

Local name: Pieninský národný park

The Pieniny National Park on the Slovak side borders with the Polish national park of the same name. To distinguish them, the Slovak abbreviation PIENAP is often used. It includes the Golica Group belonging to the Pieniny Proper and the southern part of the Little Pieniny. On its territory there is a part of the so-called Pienińska Road connecting Szczawnica with Czerwony Klasztor.

The Pieniny National Park covers an area of 38 square kilometers. It is a landscape diversified in terms of landscape with a deep, groundbreaking Dunajec valley in the west. From the Slovak shore you can admire the magnificent views of the Three Crowns and Sokolica. The Little Pieniny, where the main part of the park is located, is a ridge covered with forests, with numerous shepherd's halls and rock outcrops.

The seat of the park is the Red Monastery. There is a small nature exhibition at the entrance pavilion. Attractive tourist routes lead primarily from the valley to the ridge of the Little Pieniny. Haligowskie Rocks are eagerly visited by tourists.
