The City Castle in Kremnica is a complex of well-preserved medieval buildings surrounded by a double wall, with a main gate and three towers. Its construction began in the 13th century. It is now the seat of the Coins and Medals Museum.
The central point of the complex is the Gothic church of st. Catherine erected in the mid-15th century. It houses a valuable organ that you can listen to during a traditional summer event, the Kremnica Castle Organ. The oldest monument in the building is the 14th-century St. Andrew, i.e. a two-story burial chapel, with gothic wall frescoes.
The castle also includes a Renaissance tower with a beautiful view of the surrounding area from the top. To climb it, visitors have to climb over 120 winding stairs.
