The Strażowskie Mountains are located in northwestern Slovakia, above the Váh Valley. They are not too high, their highest peaks slightly exceed 1,200 m above sea level, but very scenic. They are famous mainly for rock outcrops and gorges. There are also many warm mineral springs here, which contributed to the creation of a health resort such as Trenczyńskie Cieplice or Rajecké Teplice.
The Strażowskie Mountains belong to the Małofatrzański Chain in the Central Carpathians. They are made of limestone and volcanic rocks. This affects their landscape, where you can often see rock gorges and ridges and outliers with fanciful shapes. The ridges of the Strażowskie Mountains are jagged and not very compact, and the slopes are very steep. This makes walking on them quite exhausting, which, however, is rewarded by the beautiful views.
In addition to the health resorts in the Strażowskie Mountains, there is an interesting town called Cicmany, called a living open-air museum. You can see wooden houses painted in dark colors decorated with white, geometric ornaments.
