Bogdana Monastery

Local name: Mănăstirea Bogdana

The Orthodox monastery of Bogdan in Radowce was built in the second half of the 14th century. It is named after the Moldavian hospodar Bogdan I, on whose initiative it was established. Most likely, a small wooden church stood in the same place earlier. It is the oldest brick building in the historical territory of Moldova.

The architecture of the church shows elements of both Western and Byzantine architecture. Unlike most temples in this area of the country, it was built on a western basilica plan. The structure of the vestibule and the division into the nave and the nave were taken from the Moldavian style.

Inside the temple, you can see historic paintings, probably from the second half of the 15th century. It is also worth paying attention to the tombstones decorated with bas-reliefs on the tombs of the first Wallachian hospodars.
