Nicolae Simache Clock Museum

Local name: Muzeul Ceasului Nicolae Simache

The Nicolae Simache Clock Museum was established in Ploiesti in 1963 on the initiative of Professor Simache, whose name it was named after. Currently, the collection consists of nearly a thousand exhibits, only a part of which is presented at the permanent exhibition, which shows the evolution of watches over the period from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century.

You can see a sundial, a wooden pendulum from 1634 and tower clocks. Noteworthy are the first pocket watch known as the "Nuremberg Egg" and watches that have belonged to various celebrities in the past, such as Constantin Brâncoveanu, Al. I. Cuza, Mihail Kogălniceanu or Ioan A. Bassarabescu. There are also watches with a built-in musical mechanism that plays songs such as "The Marseillaise" or the Romanian national anthem.
