Carol I Park

Local name: Parcul Carol

The historic park was founded at the beginning of the 20th century. It was built as a French garden, designed by Édouard Redont. Originally, the park was to serve primarily as an exhibition space for fairs and other cultural events.

There are numerous monuments in the park. Among them is a monument to the heroes of the fight for the freedom of the nation and homeland, known as the Mausoleum, as well as fountains from 1870 and 1906. Among the alleys there is the building of the Museum of Technology, first opened in 1909, and the Astronomical Institute of the Romanian Academy. It is worth paying attention to the Roman open-air arena, which can seat 5,000 spectators, a monument in the shape of a small mosque, built in 1923, and two statues depicting mythical giants.

The park also has a water tower from the early 20th century, known as Vlad Tepes Castle. Currently, it has the status of a monument and houses the headquarters of the National Bureau of Hero Worship.
