The Viseu district is located in northern Portugal, in the central part of the country. It is a mountainous region, to which tourists venture quite rarely. Instead, you can find places for a quiet rest away from civilization.
The capital of the region is the city of Viseu with a nicely preserved historic center, over which towers of several Baroque churches tower. There are many parks and public gardens here, as well as the only quartz museum in the world.
Around the city there are mountainous areas covered with thickets and forests. Among them you can see small towns built of stone or low, whitewashed houses covered with red tiles.
Several hiking trails lead through the mountains, while the white figure of Christ the King, located on a hill in the north of the region, is a popular excursion point.
