The Water Museum consists of several buildings scattered throughout Lisbon related to the history of the operation of the local water supply system. One of its most important parts was the Barbadinhos Pump Station. There is now the main seat of the Water Museum with a permanent, modern exhibition dedicated to its importance in human life.
The Barbadinhos Pomp Station was used from 1880 to 1928. Its complete equipment has been preserved, including steam machines used to move the entire system. They are located in a building from the second half of the nineteenth century, which is a monument of industrial architecture. Its interiors, however, have been adapted to the contemporary exhibition needs.
A modern, multimedia and interactive exhibition looks like it was inside a spaceship. Here you can get acquainted with the Portuguese water system, the world's water resources, trace the water cycle in nature, check if there are areas that can do without water.
