East Lisbon is a train station designed by the Spanish architect and construction engineer Santiago Calatrava. The station is located in close proximity to the Expo '98 exhibition grounds and now the Park of Nations. The station was opened in May 1998. On the opening day it was the largest intermodal station, i.e. using more than one mode of transport, in all of Portugal.
The complex includes a bus station (local and long-distance routes) on two levels, a retail space and the Lisbon metro station on the first level. Whereas on the last two levels there is a railway station served by trains of the national railway carrier (CP), which run on inter-city, regional as well as urban routes.
At the station there are eight tracks with a length of 510 m to 720 m, as well as four platforms 309 m long and 60-70 cm high.
