Fort Saint-Joseph

Fortifications located on a tiny island off the coast of Madeira, near the city of Funchal. The island is in private hands and in 2007 it was proclaimed by its owner a separate administrative unit, which he ruled as a prince. The fort, which covers almost the entire surface of the island, is a stone building from the 18th century. Inside the walls are a residential house, outbuildings and a small vineyard.
