The Jan Kasprowicz Museum is located in Villa Harenda in Zakopane. It is a house built in 1920 in the Zakopane style. In its interiors visitors can see furniture and souvenirs of the Kasprowicz family. There are also pictures on the glass collected by the poet and graphics made by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz who was a frequent guest in Harenda.
Jan Kasprowicz, a well-known Young Poland poet, bought Villa Harenda in 1923. He had lived there with his second wife, Maria. After the writer's death, the house was inherited by his daughters from the first marriage, Janina and Anna, who eventually handed Harenda over which become a museum in 1950. In the interwar period, it was a meeting place for the artistic community travelling to Tatras. Among others, Leopold Staff, Witkacy, and Stefan Żeromski have been visiting this place.The house has original furniture from the time of Jan Kasprowicz. Visitors can see the living room, bedroom, and dining room. In the interiors are also paintings of Władysław Jarocki, son-in-law of Kasprowicz. Behind the house stands a stone mausoleum designed by Karol Stryjeński where the ashes of the poet and his wife are.Less
