Market Square an Town Hall in Wschowa

Local name: Rynek i ratusz we Wschowie

The Town Hall in Wschowa is a beautiful neo-Romanesque building, adorned by a monumental tower - the oldest architectural element dating back to the 16th century. The structure is noticeably slightly higher central part and characteristic decorations and top of the roof of the front façade. The building remains the seat of the administrative authorities, so access to it is limited.

The first, built in this place, the town hall building was only partially bricked and partly wooden. The second one was destroyed in a fire, so only brick parts survived from the 15th century. The first town hall had a gothic form. After rebuilding and subsequent redevelopments, it was eventually given neo-Romanian characteristics. From the first project outside the tower, there is also an original hall on the north-east side of the ground floor, where you can admire the late Gothic vault.

The front elevation of the town hall is adorned with a bas-relief with a coronation scene of the Virgin Mary and a double Jagiellonian cross, which is the present symbol of Wschowa. The original window joinery was preserved from the 19th century.
