Regional Museum
Local name: Muzeum Regionalne
The Museum of Dr. Peter's name in Tomaszów Lubelski is a small institution that documents the history and culture of the region. There are collections on the history of the city from the prehistoric times, the battle of Tomaszowska from 1939 and the material culture and life of the population in the vicinity of Tomaszow.
The museum was founded in 1962. Initially it was a private exhibition of souvenirs and regional monuments gathered by the doctor and tour guide Janusz Peter. In 1967 the exhibition was taken over by the state and since then has been functioning as a regional museum.
There are two permanent exhibitions at the Museum. Here you can see ceramics, weapons, jewelery and everyday items from the prehistoric and early Middle Ages excavated during the excavations in the area. The second is an ethnographic exhibition, where clothes, utensils, tools, home furnishings and handicrafts from the surrounding villages are presented. Collections on the history of the city and the battle of Tomaszów are not currently available.
