Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Local name: Kościół Zwiastowania NMP
The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tomaszów Lubelski is a monument of high historical and religious values. It's an amazing example of wooden sacral architecture. Because it houses the miraculous painting of Our Lady of the Scapular, the church is a destination of pilgrimages.
The painting is placed in the lower part of the Mannerist main altar together with relics of the patron. Walls, naves, and the rood beam are decorated with beautiful polychromies from the 18th century while columns and cornices impress with their colorful stucco decorations. What also is worthy of attention is the rood beam with the crucifixion group, the pulpit from the first half of the 17th century, the stone baptismal font, seatings, and Rococo confessionals.Founded by ordynat Tomasz Zamoyski, the wooden log church was built in 1627. Its symmetrical structure is composed of two quadrangular towers with the visible top of the gabled roof between them. The construction is complemented by tented roofs topping the towers and the characteristic porch at the entrance thanks to which the church seems like a fairy-tale building.Less
