Mill Gate

Local name: Brama Młyńska

The Mill Gate in Strzelce Krajeńskie is a valuable defensive monument from the Middle Ages. The red brick construction was built on the stone foundation. It has an arched passage and four floors. The facade is decorated with architectonic elements characteristic for the medieval times. It's the headquarters of the National Music School in Strzelce Krajeńskie.

The Mill Gate, also called Eastern or Drezdenkowska, was built probably at the end of the 14th century or at the beginning of the 15th century as part of defensive walls. It owes its names to the location at the exit of Młyńska Street in the eastern part of the city. The exit was leading to the levee between lakes which made it more difficult for enemies to get into the city. The foregate and the neck were also elements of fortification on the east until the 18th century. The modernistic building situated on the northern side was built in the 20th century during the reconstruction of the entire object. The regional museum operated there.

After World War II, the object was taken over by a community center and then by music school. Interesting elements which preserved to this day are blendes and pinnacles with the tracery decoration on the eastern facade, and long, narrow, niches topped by arches on the western facade.
