Pope's Altar and Museum of John Paul II

The Papal Altar in Stary Sącz is a sacred building that was built on the occasion of the arrival of John Paul II in the city in 1999. The altar was built for the Mass celebrated on the occasion of St. canonization. Kingi, closely associated with Stary Sacz.
St. Kinga lived and died in Stary Sącz. On her initiative a monastery of the Poor Clares was established in the city. On the occasion of the canonization of Sts. Kinga in Stary Sącz was erected a wooden structure maintained in the style of highlander pastoral architecture, whose main element is the altar. It was with him John Paul II celebrated Mass while visiting the city. Above the altar is a copy of the canonization image of St. Kingi, and next to the altar there is a chapel.
The altar was designed and built by Zenon Andrzej Remi. The building was supposed to be temporary, but the city authorities decided to keep it.
