Market Square in Stary Sącz
Local name: Rynek w Starym Sączu
The Market Square in Stary Sącz is one of the most representative parts of the city. It was located on a rectangular plan and still preserves medieval architecture with its typical spacing of buildings.
Stary Sącz was one of the first Polish cities to obtain city rights. It is a city with old traditions which, despite hundreds of years, have survived until today - the Old Town has a typical medieval layout. For this reason, Stary Sacz was declared an urban reserve.
Of the 25 buildings built just after the market upturn in Stary Sącz, today they have survived as many as 22. Of the historic buildings located in the Old Market Square, it is worth mentioning the so-called. House at the Pit, 17th century burgher house, the seat of the regional museum.
In the market of Old Sacz you can not, however, see the town hall, which burned down in 1795. The building of the Franciscan monastery was formerly used as the headquarters of the city and the municipality.
