Town Hall in Stargard

Local name: Ratusz w Stargardzie

Stargard Town Hall is one of the oldest and also the most beautiful monuments located in the city. Originally, the building served as a market hall, later it housed the seat of the city authorities, a meeting room, a courtroom and a treasury. Currently, there is the City Council, the Wedding Hall and the Society of Friends of Stargard, as well as the command of the Stargard detachment.

The building of the current town hall was repeatedly destroyed by fires. It suffered greatly during World War II, but fortunately, thanks to the preserved sketches and photos of the object it was rebuilt. It was built in the Gothic style. One of the most interesting parts of the building is its gable, whose height is greater than half the height of the object. The town hall is a richly decorated one-story building, which is crowned with a gable roof.

In the 13th century, the current town hall housed a hall called the Merchant's House. In later years, there was still a hall on the ground floor, but the first floor was the mayor's office, there was also a chancellery, treasury and courtroom. The basement, on the other hand, housed warehouses for visiting merchants. During the holiday periods, the ground floor of the building was a playground for the townspeople.
