Queen Bona hill

Local name: Góra Królowej Bony

A small hill near Stara Łomża, known as the "Góra Królowej Bona", is known for the stronghold that existed there in the early Middle Ages. It is the original location of Łomża. Dated from the 9th-10th century, the stronghold was one of the most northeastern defensive strongholds in Mazovia. The area is under conservation protection and entered in the register of monuments.

The remains of the hillfort are among the largest of its kind in Mazovia - they occupy almost 2 ha. The remains of the earth embankments surrounding the stronghold have survived to this day. In the 20th century, excavations in this area began. Among others, the remains of a wooden tower, buildings, as well as dry moats and an entrance gate.

According to the legend, on the neighboring hill, called the Hill of Saint Lawrence, the oldest church in this area was built around 1000 by Saint. Bruno from Kwerfurt.
