Spitzberg-Ostrog Fort

Local name: Fort Spitzberg-Ostróg

The fort is located on the top of the Ostróg mountain (627 m above sea level). It was built in the years 1769-1772 as an auxiliary fort of the Srebnogórska Fortress. It was supposed to guard the Silver Pass and the southern flank of the fortress. The monument can be visited on its own, but a guided tour (dressed as a soldier of the Prussian regiment) is definitely recommended.

During the tour, you can learn about the history of the fort in the context of the history of the 20th century. For example, in the 1930s there was a Hitler Youth training center here, and during World War II - a prison, and then a prisoner-of-war camp. Despite the harsh conditions, three Polish officers managed to escape from here.

Occasional events, integration meetings for companies as well as reconstructions and historical feasts are also organized in the fort.
