Statue of an European bison

Local name: Posąg Żubra

The natural size of the bison statue was commissioned by Tsar Alexander II. This historic statue of the bison was to celebrate the great hunt of 1860, during which the car personally hunted 10 of these animals and, in addition, with one shot, slaughtered a unique male specimen. This statue weighs about 4 tons and is now near the summer residence of I. Moscicki in the park, which grows about a hundred oaks with a five-meter circumference.

Nowadays, this unusual tourist attraction acts as an unofficial coat of arms of Spała and a symbol of Spalkie scouts.

For 53 years, the bison monument stood in the Bialowieza Forest, but as a result of World War I, the retreating Russians took the statue deep into Russia. Then he decorated the courtyard of the Royal Castle in Warsaw in 1928 to be transferred to the presidential hunting mansion I. Mościckiego.
