The Smolen Castle is a medieval Gothic stronghold built on the top of a forested hill. Only its ruins have survived to this day. Visitors can admire the parts of the defensive walls of the two lower castles and the upper castle, as well as the remains of the defensive tower. The building is located in the area of the "Smoleń" nature reserve and on the Trail of the Eagle's Nests.
Initially, the building had consisted of one tower and a residential building. Then, two lower castles connected by the wall with the upper structure were built onto it. The eastern part served economic and residential functions for the castle's employees. Additionally, there was a weapon storehouse. The western castle was built at the latest. It was a mansion with a residential and household part. The building was built in the middle of the 14th century at the request of Otto of Pilcza of the Topór (Axe) coat of arms. The object was significantly damaged during the Swedish Deluge. In 2013, the castle walls were secured, wooden stairs were built under the tower, and tourists can climb the metal stairs to its top. The tower offers a beautiful view of the quiet countryside.Less
