Koszalin Gate

Local name: Brama Koszalińska

An important element of the defense walls of the famous. The fortifications were erected at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. The first mention of them dates from 1400. Sławno was surrounded by water channels, earth and wood fortifications and brick walls. The town could be reached by field gate, Słupsk Gate, Meadow Gate and Koszalin Gate. The Koszalin Gate already existed in 1453.

The building was erected on a rectangular plan, made of bricks, on a stone foundation. A passage through the sharp arc was created in the lower storey. The north and south façades (from the entrance and exit side) are decorated with six slender blends. The roof was originally gable, and now - after dismantling the peaks and rebuilding at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries - a hip tent.

Famous fortifications gradually lost their defensive significance, which led to their planned demolition in the 19th century. Only the Koszalin and Slupsk Gate were left. For the next century they were used for various purposes, including military ones, and occasional repairs were also carried out. In spite of repeated attempts, after 1945, no gates were permanently managed.
