Lachy Sądeckie Museum

Local name: Muzeum Lachów Sądeckich

Museum of Lachów Sądeckich im. Zofia and Stanisław Chrząstowski in Podegrodzie is devoted to the rich material culture of the population living in the Sądecka Basin. The furnishings of Lachów houses, costumes, handicrafts and works of local artists are gathered here. One of the exhibitions is also devoted to the early medieval history of Podegrodzie and the then existing stronghold.

Lachy Sądeckie is an ethnographic group intermediate between the Cracovians and the highlanders. They live in the Sądecka Basin, and Podegrodzie has been the center of their culture since the 19th century. Even today, this folklore is very much alive in the area. There are folk groups, and the Lachian costume is also cultivated. At the exhibition in the Museum in Podegrodzie, you can see beautifully embroidered Lakhiv shirts, blouses and caps. There are also decorated men's jackets and trousers and pink skirts, characteristic for this group.

In the section devoted to everyday life in Lachy Sądeckie, you can find furniture, dishes, local crafts and tools used on the farm. The museum also managed to gather a large collection of works by local artists. These are paintings, prints, glass painting, as well as folk sculpture.

One of the rooms is dedicated to the history of Podegrodzie. In the early Middle Ages, there was a fortified city here. The exhibition includes items from the excavations, photos and tables showing the presumed appearance of the defensive structure.
