Abbot was a rich and important city in the past. It was built to build powerful walls. Only small fragments survived, and the only surviving gate, called Warsaw. It is a symbol of Opatowa and one of its most picturesque objects.
Opatov's fortifications were built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. At that time, four gateways to the city were built - Krakowska, Lubelska, Sandomierz and Warsaw. Their names were derived from the directions of the trade routes they came from. The Warsaw Gate was funded by the great chancellor, Krzysztof Szydłowiecki. It is a square renaissance building, built of stone and topped with a high white attic. In the past it was much higher, but to this day we survived only the two lowest tiers. It is a symbolic border between the old and new Opatow and is located on the route of every tourist who visits this picturesque city.
