New Town Hall

Local name: Nowy Ratusz

The new Town Hall in Olsztyn refers in style to buildings from the Renaissance. In 1989, the building was entered into the register of monuments. Every day at noon, and at midnight on the New Year's Eve, the trumpeter plays the city anthem from the city hall tower. Particular attention should be paid to finely made balconies, decorations in the form of bas-reliefs, the bay windows, an annex, as well as a clock tower with a gallery and a soaring helmet with a lantern and a spire.

Built on a stone pedestal, the building consists of three three-storey wings, a town hall tower and a hall annexe. Statues of civic virtues: Diligence, Wisdom, Justice, Strength and Beauty decorate the spaces between the windows of the City Council meeting hall.

The current appearance of the building was obtained after the construction of the south-west wing in the mid-1920s. The main entrance is in the tower, which grows out of the southern wing. The clock faces located on the town hall tower are decorated with twelve signs of the zodiac. The building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century in the place of the Church of the Holy Cross, demolished in 1806. Since 1915, it has been the seat of the City Hall of Olsztyn and the Mayor of Olsztyn.
