The House of the Olsztyn Gazette Museum was opened in 1992 as one of the branches of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria. The expositions mainly present the history of Warmia and Olsztyn, Polish press published in the region, and also the history of the former printing house of Olsztyńska Gazette. Apart from permanent exhibitions, the museum organizes temporary exhibitions and works of the local artists. Lectures and didactic workshops are also organized there.
In 1920-1939 the printing house and editorial office of Olsztyńska Gazette owned by the Pieniężna family were located in the building of the museum. It was the only Polish newspaper in Warmia which didn't collapse. Because of that, at the beginning of World War II, Nazis entered the office, confiscated current circulation and arrested editor Seweryn Pieniężny. The building had been ostentatiously leveled shortly thereafter. The reconstruction was taken on 50 years later. Pieniężny's daughters were present during the opening ceremony.Less
