The ruins of the castle in Olsztyn can be seen close up from the Trail of the Eagle's Nests which leads from Cracow to Częstochowa. What remained after the impressive stronghold are walls, towers (cylindrical and square) and cellars which were secured and opened for visits.
The ruins are located in the Silesian village of Olsztyn, in the Polish Jurassic Highland. Like the rest of castles included in the Trail of the Eagle's Nests, this one was also built on a high rock.The castle, which ruins are situated in Olsztyn, has hundreds of years. However, the exact date of its construction is not known - according to the historians it could be built even earlier than in the 13th century. It was attacked many times during its existence. Damage due to the sieges was always repaired. The current state of the castle was caused by the Swedish Deluge and following pillages.Less
