St. Mary's Avenue
Local name: Aleja Najświętszej Maryi Panny
St. Mary's Avenue is a representative street in the center of the city. The double-lane roads are divided by the boulevard with trees, benches, and natural-size monuments of famous inhabitants of Częstochowa. The street starts in the Daszyński's Square, goes through the center, and ends at the foot of the Jasna Góra Monastery. Its length amounts to 1,5 km.
St. Mary's Avenue was to become a connection between Old and New Częstochowa. In 1826, after the cities joined together, the street was officially accepted as St. Mary's Street. It was divided into three parts in the 19th century.The avenue consists of stores, and service and cultural facilities. St. Mary's Avenue III starts at the foot of the Jasna Góra Monastery where tourists can choose between numerous pubs, cafes, restaurants, and museums. The main square with the Town Hall is situated at the intersection of Avenues II and III. Avenue II leads through the very center of downtown. There are shops, cinema, concert hall, city library, pubs, and restaurants. Tourists walking down Avenue I can visit next shops, turn into Piłsudski Street, called Frytkowa Avenue, or go through the viaduct over railway tracks.Less
