Maltzan Palace in Milicz

Local name: Pałac Maltzanów

The Maltzan Palace is a classicist building, formerly a family residence. Inside the room there is a ballroom and several adjacent rooms. To the courtyard of honor leads the gate with nymph sculptures in the bath. A statue of a hunter is located in the heraldic courtyard. The building surrounds the park in English style.

The palace was built between 1797 and 1798 according to the design of Charles Geissler, commissioned by Joachim Karl Maltzan. The building was modeled on Sanssouci Castle and Neues Palais in Potsdam. In 1910, a southern wing was added, with stone elements dating back to the 15th and 18th centuries. The southern wing contained a retreat house.

The Park of the Maltzan Palace in English style is over 200 years old and has 80 species of shrubs and trees. There are, among others. Oaks, cypress mussels, azaleas and rhododendrons. At present, the Palace of Arts and Sciences is located in the palace and in the southern wing the Regional Chamber of the Barycz Valley.
