St. Leonard's Church
Local name: Kościół św. Leonarda
Church of Sts. Leonarda in Lipnica Murowana is an extremely valuable monument not only in Poland, but on the world scale - it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This wooden temple, built in the 15th century, has been preserved in its unchanged state and is a perfect example of Gothic architecture in a wooden edition.
Church of Sts. Leonarda is one of the most famous wooden buildings in Malopolska. This temple has a framework and traditionally - the door only from the south and west, and the south side windows. This church is equipped with copies of three triptychs, which were transferred from it to the Diocesan Museum in Tarnów: the triptych of Sts. Leonard, St. Nicholas and Child Adoration Jesus. Also in the interior of the church you can admire the Baroque paintings and the Gothic bas-relief of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary (dating back to the 14th century).
Interestingly, according to the tradition of Lipnica Murowana church construction is attributed to 1141 years - such a date is found on one of the walls of the chancel.
