A partially completed water lock, which was to be built as part of the large Masurian Canal system. It is a structure of impressive dimensions - it is over 20 meters deep, 7.5 meters wide and 46 meters long.
The project to build the Masurian Canal (connecting the Great Masurian Lakes with the Baltic Sea) was established at the end of the 19th century. This system was to perform transport functions and consist of 10 locks and 2 weirs. However, their construction was interrupted many times. The last attempt to complete the project was made by the Germans during World War II, as evidenced by the emblem of the Third Reich on the wall of the building. The construction of the lock in Leśniewo Górny ended on a concrete structure - it lacks technical devices.
Less than a kilometer away, there is another unfinished structure of the Masurian Canal - a partially flooded lock in Leśniewo Dolny.
