The building of the Cistercian abbey in Krzeszów is a masterpiece of late baroque art. The jewel of the complex is the basilica with two towers over 70 m high. The vault of the church is covered with rich frescoes, in the main altar there is an icon of the Mother of God from the thirteenth century, the largest in Silesia, eighteenth-century organ and beautiful pulpit enrapture with beauty. The church is adjoined by the Piast Mausoleum, as well as the chapel of Saint Maria Magdalena. The monastery is surrounded by a garden inside which there is a complex of 25 chapels of Calvary. In the abbey there is a restaurant and a souvenir shop, and a possibility of accommodation for visitors.
The Monastery Complex was founded in 1242, but the current magnificent buildings date from the 15th to the 18th century. The heart if it is a magnificent little basilica, but on the grounds of the abbey there is also the 17th-century church of St. Joseph. Inside it there are paintings depicting the biblical scenes by painter Michael Willmann and the magnificent Baroque décor. A visit to the Cistercian complex is a wonderful meeting with history and can not be overlooked during a visit to Krzeszów.Less
