Gorce National Park contains the tallest parts of the Gorce Mountains - one of the mountain chains of the Beskids situated in the area of Rąbka and Nowy Targ. The characteristic feature of the mountains is spacious dorsal glades from which the beautiful views on the Pieniny, the Sądecki Beskid, the Wyspowy Beskid and also the Tatras (in good weather) can be admired. The park is interlaced with walking tracks. Its area and neighborhood consist of refuges for tourists.
Gorce National Park was established in 1981. The tradition of nature protection in Gorce dates back to the interwar period when the owners of these lands - Wodziccy of Poręba Wielka - founded here a nature reserve. Today, the Podworski Park in Poręba consists of the headquarters of the park's office and natural path. The characteristic feature of the Gorce Mountains is dorsal glades which, in the past, served as pasturage for sheep. Nowadays, the cultural grazing takes place on Long Hall. The park carries out a frequent mowing in order to prevent the glades from overgrowing. Most of the area of the park consists of beech and spruce forests. Its area also contains the tallest parts of the Gorce Mountains including Jaworzyna Kamieniecka, Kiczora, Kudłoń, and Gorc. Turbacz is located outside the park. The observation tower was recently built on Gorc.Less
