Kazimierz Dolny Tower
Local name: Baszta w Kazimierzu Dolnym
The tower is visible from virtually anywhere in the city. The object is also called the Lokietka Tower and was made available to visitors. It is a magnificent observation point from which you can admire the picturesque view of Kazimierz Dolny, the Vistula valley and even the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
The tower was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries and before it was built the castle was called the upper castle. It is twenty meters high, and the wall thickness in some places reaches four meters. The tower consists of five storeys and has openings, which testify to the defensive function of the building. From the west side, at 6 m there is a vaulted entrance, formerly connected with a drawbridge.
The original function of the tower is not exactly known. It is believed that in addition to the defensive function, it could also be the seat of the customs guard, and the night was used as a river lighthouse. Some believe that inside could be a prison and even a treasury.
