Railway overpass

Local name: Estakada kolejowa

The railway wharf in Gorzow Wielkopolski is a valuable monument of technology, entered in the register in 2009. The unique structure is 2116 m and is a complex of 70 spans with arched vaults, divided into six sections with steel viaducts. In the central part of the flyover is a railway station with underground tunnel and shelter.

The historic railway wharf is only partially listed on the list of monuments, which results from its reconstruction in the past years. The 1700 m of the structure was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The rise of the high railway on the track was connected with the necessity to improve the traffic in the former Gorzów. There were nine blocks along the way, and the traffic was often blocked by frequent shut-offs. An interesting fact is that barriers were closed on average 35 times a day, ie every 45 minutes.

At present, the wharf is not only a road for the railway, but also a valuable monument and tourist attraction. A part of the route separates the boulevard from the city center, and in the niches under the spans are located pubs, restaurants and shops.
