Grounds of the battle of Racławice
Local name: Teren bitwy pod Racławicami
The battlefield near Racławice is located in three villages: Racławice, Dziemięrzyce and Wrocimowice. He has been on the list of Monuments of History since 2004. It is a hilly area where the most important battle of the Kościuszko Uprising took place. Currently there is the Kościuszko Mound and a monument to Bartosz Głowacki.
The battle of Racławice took place on April 4, 1794. It is recognized by historians as the most important clash during the Kościuszko Uprising. Kosciuszko, commanding the insurgents, including large units of scythemen, managed to defeat Russian troops. This increased the participants' morale and allowed them to continue fighting.
The battlefield has a varied landscape. On the Zamczysko hill there are ruins of a gothic castle. In the years 1926–1934, local people built a Kościuszko Mound at his feet. In 1994, a statue of Bartosz Głowacki, a scytheman, who hid a gun barrel was erected here. The author of the sculpture is the well-known artist Marian Konieczny.
